Skateboard coaching
Skateboard coaching sessions are just one aspect of Skate Nottingham’s work, with our team of qualified coaches available to host events at skateparks and other spaces around Nottingham & Nottinghamshire.
On your first session with Skate Nottingham, participants will be asked to register their details via a Google Form before joining - this can be done on the day, or beforehand to save time. Simply complete the form linked above with the participant’s details, and repeat as necessary for multiple participants. If you are a parent/guardian registering on behalf of a child - please ensure you enter the participant’s details, not your own.
-
Due to the terms of our Public Liability Insurance, all participants must be aged 7+. No exceptions.
-
Skate Nottingham provides skateboards and helmets to be borrowed during the session. If you do have your own, you are welcome to bring them! Bicycle helmets that fully protect your head are fine. We recommend a professional skateboard setup - if you have a cheaper, basic skateboard, we will suggest you try with one of ours to ensure the best and safest skateboarding experience. Please note our equipment is limited and in the case of a full session, you may be turned away.
-
All of our upcoming events are advertised on our homepage, as well as on our social media.
-
No - just turn up! Please arrive on time to register and to ensure you get one of our limited skateboards & helmets to use during the session.
-
Yes, anyone taking part in a Skate Nottingham session will need to sign up via a Google Form with their basic details. This gives us an awareness of who is in the session, and helps us report back to funders on the age range, gender demographic, and postcode areas of participants.
If you have signed up to a Skate Nottingham session from 2025 onwards, you won’t need to complete the form again - simply tell us the participant’s name and they will be marked as present.
To save time, you can register for the first time ahead of arrival at your first Skate Nottingham session - simply complete the registration form here. -
For our standard 1hr 30 sessions: No - please arrive on time to get the full experience of our sessions, which are planned out with different learning activities from start to finish. Times are clearly stated in all advertising. To allow our coaches to run a well co-ordinated session, latecomers may be turned away following the initial registration period.
For longer sessions that are provided as part of bigger events such as community fairs, yes - these are often ran as ‘drop in’ sessions, meaning participants will come and go throughout. -
No - all Skate Nottingham events are entirely free! This is our commitment to ensure there are no barriers to enrichment & learning opportunities.
-
We work with different clients who wish to bring skateboard coaching to their area or event, such as local authorities or community groups wanting their skatepark facilities activated for the local community. We also apply for lots of grant funding to create projects for Nottingham skateboarding.
-
Where we host events is decided mostly by the funding - if our client is a particular Nottinghamshire borough council, we will only be at agreed skateparks within their remit. Where we have choice on applying for grant-funded projects, we will have made a call on what skateparks or areas could particularly benefit from free activation, such as underused facilities or low-income wards.
Want to see your local skatepark activated with our sessions? You could try contacting your local council to ask for skateboard coaching provision! -
If there is a need to postpone or cancel due to rain, Skate Nottingham will make a decision at least 24 hours before a scheduled session. This will be communicated on social media and our website. If no announcement of postponement has been made, then we have committed to be at the event as planned, likely because the forecast rain is only light or can be dealt with using a squeegee to dry the skatepark.

Our coaching sessions are suitable for all ages 7+. This often largely attracts young people between 7-15, but also older teenagers and adults. We encourage adults to join if they’re interested in trying skateboarding or progressing! Our coaching team are mostly adults and will cater to everyone’s abilities.
We occasionally have funding to do adult-only coaching sessions, but these are not as frequent as they are harder to fund. -
We don’t currently do private coaching for individuals. Our aim is to provide open sessions to benefit as many people at once, and encourage important development of skills in young people such as social skills, skatepark etiquette, and peer-to-peer learning. Our friends at Purple Arms Skate School do offer private or small group sessions at a cost, at various skateparks around Nottinghamshire.
-
Sorry, we do not currently have expertise in any type of adaptive skateboarding or WCMX (wheelchair motorcross) for people with disabilities. However, a number of our coaching team are experienced in working with young people & adults with additional needs, such as neurodivergent individuals. Feel free to email us if you would like to discuss how we might assist a participant with additional needs.
